Theatre Comes to South Jefferson County
The Gray Coast Theatre Company met for the first time, Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the Gray Coast Guildhall in Quilcene, Washington. Sixteen people with a wide range of talent and interests attended. We discussed how to shape a vibrant theatre community in South Jefferson County. Some ideas: monologues, scene study, workshopping original plays, puppetry, and an open mic for any artistic, theatrical presentation. We also resolved to share resources, encouragement, and talent with other local community theatre groups, especially the Ludlow Village Players (more on that later).
Diversity of Talent
A sampling of talent at the first meeting: acting, directing, playwriting, teaching, stage crew, puppetry, improv, performance art, cabaret drag, and music. Participants spanned generations and came from around the county: 7 from Quilcene, 5 from Brinnon, 2 from Chimacum, 1 from Irondale, and 1 from Port Townsend. There was a lot of enthusiasm and a desire to jump into creating live theatre.
What’s Next?
The next meeting is Monday, September 19, 6:30 pm, Gray Coast Guildhall at 11 Old Church Road in Quilcene. Three playwrights will present scenes from works-in-progress, we’ll get to know each other through theatre exercises, we may have a monologue, and we’ll discuss upcoming events.
